The snow outside's delightful, but the chaos caused is frightful.

Snow often alters the way we think about things. Dealing
with it and talking about it takes over all our lives for a few
days or weeks every year or so. The news is dominated by snow
associated stories. For instance there are reports that many
people have been finding extra ways of keeping themselves warm
indoors during this cold snap. But we can also report that
there has been other indoor activity as well. We have seen
more enquiries from house buyers over the past week than we have in
any week over the past two years. This is good news for the
property market and for the UK economy where so many allied
interests depend on a healthy turnover of property in the
residential sector.
Low interest rates are certainly a major factor in this increased
activity. So too is an urge to move before the general
election. Christmas and New Year do always act as a strong
influence on families who frequently decide over the holiday period
that they need somewhere to live that is bigger or smaller.
Some even decide that they would prefer to live in two
homes rather than one! With this and the fact that that
lenders are slowly releasing their stranglehold on mortgage funds
it seems all those who have decided to move will in fact be doing
so at a very opportune time.
Despite worries about a double dip in the economy, the reality
simply is that many people who have put off moving over the past
few years - because of the recession - can really put it off no
longer. Life doesn’t wait forever for the right GDP and
balance of payments; for our schools and hospitals to improve, for
the property market to boom or even the weather to get better.
So perhaps the best thing is to get on with life and that
move, and let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.
